11.10.2011: Godzilla Legends’ Matt Frank & my trip to Japan!

Matt Frank's Retail Incentive Sketch Covers

Can you see the majesty in this photo?? These are Matt Frank's Retailer Incentive covers to Godzilla Legends issue #1. Matt joined us for this episode and we talked all about this fantastic new entry into Godzilla comic-dom!

Greetings and salutations, listeners! For this episode (number 45 for those counting!), Heather, Jeff and I were lucky to have the extremely talented and exuberant Matt Frank join us through Skype to talk about the brand new comic he’s worked on called Godzilla Legends, a brand new mini-series from IDW Publishing that should be on sale next week. Matt was kind enough to provide up with a review copy of his issue and we talked for a while about his involvement, both in the artwork and the story. It’s a great kick-off to what should be a great series, so make sure you check that out at your local comic book shop.

We also talked about my recent trip to the land of the rising sun: Tokyo, Japan. As many listeners know, I was extremely lucky to have the opportunity to go to Asia for work and one of those stops was Tokyo. Was I ecstatic? You’d better believe it! A lot of the photos from that trip were posted to the Kaijucast facebook gallery named “Japan Visit 2011“. I hit almost everything I wanted to do, but not without some chaos thrown in for good story telling. If you are planning on visiting Japan, let me know as I am totally happy to share where I found the places. Because of the Tokyo breakdown, this episode is a bit longer than I wanted it to be, but it’s just so hard to stop talking about this stuff. So apologies in advance, folks!

In addition to the interview and my Tokyo stories, we did have some new break during the recording process. Make sure you click on those stories and local events down below!

Don’t forget to turn in your thought, questions and reviews on the 1992 Godzilla vs. Mothra before November 27th to have your homework part of our next Daikaiju Discussion episode! We’ll be watching a subtitled version of the film, but feel free to watch the version released on VHS and DVD back in 1998 (sad face). If you don’t have the film (and you really should), it’s still available from Deep Discount DVD. Admittedly, it’s not a great version of the film, but it’s the only legitimate option here in the land of Region 1. If you have the ability to watch Region 4 films (from Australia), Madman Entertainment has a pretty tight looking Heisei boxset with Godzilla vs Mothra included (although shipping might not bring you the set before the homework due date).
