10.11.2013: Dave Filoni & The Head Of Mechagodzilla

Dave Filoni is not only the director of The Clone Wars animated show, he also happens to be a massive Godzilla fan! Clearly, that Mechagodzilla head is just photoshopped in there.

In this episode, we’re talking with Dave Filoni, director of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars The Clone Wars. Dave has been a long-time, hard core Godzilla fan and I had the pleasure of meeting him this year at Godzilla Night in San Leandro. I’ve wanted to get him on the podcast for a few years now, but didn’t really have a connection. Thankfully, he was on board and this episode is the resulting conversation!

Dave has been a serious Godzilla fan since he was just a kid. In addition to including a Godzilla-like creature in the Clone Wars known as the Zillo beast, he’s had his artwork in G-Fan Magazine and he even built his own Mechagodzilla costume (which I’ve seen in person and it is incredible). Here’s a link to a couple of photos featuring Dave’s Mechagodzilla from the Godzilla Final Wars Premiere at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood (back when I used to webmaster Henshin! Online): [1] [2]

As I’ve said before, this is a great time to be a kaiju fan. Pacific Rim has really had a significant impact on both the kaiju fandom community and the pop-culture world in general. But the upcoming Godzilla film is generating so much buzz from the interviews, the leaks, the posters… it seems like every time I log onto a social network, someone is posting or talking about something. This month was no different in that we have seen two teasers “leaked” and I’m sure it’s not over. Apparently on November 3rd, the official teaser will be available online.

I cover that in this month’s news section and a number of other stories to check out in the “suggested reading” section below. Plus, of course, we had some music requests.
