05.16.2012: Interview with Godzilla series’ editor Bobby Curnow

Heather and Kyle hide from the heat in episode 57 of the Kaijucast

Heather and Kyle hide from the heat in episode 57 of the Kaijucast, but we also have a great interview with Godzilla seres editor Bobby Curnow!

Greeting, kaiju fans! And hopefully kaiju comic book fans, as well… because for this episode of the Kaijucast we talk to IDW’s editor for their Godzilla series, Mr. Bobby Curnow. The last time we spoke to Bobby on the show was just before Godzilla: Kingdom Of Monsters was released and, boy, a LOT has happened since January of 2011! Aside from the series getting a new artist, new writer and being capped at issue 12, IDW ran an extremely successful promotion (the get-your-comic-shop-crushed-by-Godzilla promotion) and they have produced two additional mini-series, Godzilla: Gangsters & Goliaths and Godzilla: Legends. Just the tip of the proverbial iceberg, we’re sure, but Bobby joined us to talk about the new “soft reboot” series that launches on the 23rd of this month, simply titled Godzilla. I’ve read the first two issues and it looks to be a more memorable series than Kingdom Of Monsters. Hopefully you’ll head out to your local comic book shop and pick up your issue….maybe with the wraparound Art Adams GMK cover?

Anyway, as usual, we had a little bit of news to share and in this episode, I actually hand-picked all of the audio goodness. So open up those ear-holes and enjoy!

1. The Mysterians US Trailer audio (1959)
2. Showdown Between The Three Large Monsters in Okinawa by Marau Sato from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974)
3. King Ghidorah Attacks Fukuoka by Akira Ifukube from Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991)
4. The Kilaaks control Ghidorah audio clip from Destroy All Monsters (1968)
5. Four Giant Monsters Violent Fight by Akira Ifukube from Godzilla vs Gigan (1972)
6. Terror Mountain Showdown by Kodoja

Not Local Event, but…CHECK THIS OUT:
Bay Area Film Event’s King Kong vs. Godzilla/Godzilla – Mothra – King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack double feature at the Historic Bal Theater in San Leandro, California (aka part of “the Bay area”). Special guests include Ed Godziszewski, Steve Ryfle, Cleve Hall, Creepy KOFY Movietime’s Balrok and I’ll be there to do some live podcast recording! Plus Kimono My House will be selling Godzilla stuff in the lobby and…well, you should get the idea. Get your tickets here!

If you want to get your thoughts, questions and reviews into the next episode of the Kaijucast, make sure you email them to me before May 23rd. The film you should watch is Rebirth Of Mothra (1996). I’m not exactly sure what we’ll be watching, but I would only expect you to watch the dubbed version of the film as that is the only one available on DVD.
