08.30.2012: Daikaiju Discussion for Gorath

Gorath wasn't really enjoyable for any of us...

Martin, Heather and I watched Gorath… let’s just say that film this might have been one of the worst viewings in Kaijucast history.

Oh, Gorath… why aren’t you a better movie? So, this is the Daikaiju episode where we dive into the 1962 “space epic” known in Japan as Yousei Gorath. I don’t want to spoil the episode for you, but if you are a big fan of this film, you might want to skip this show. We just didn’t have a great experience watching this film. I actually wish I had scored a copy of the dubbed US version of the film; maybe the tone would have lightened a bit.

We did have a surprisingly strong amount of homework submitted for this film – especially since it’s not available on DVD. So, kudos to you, listener! There were, of course, other things that needed covering. Make sure you check the show notes for the muy importante links to…. uh… mostly SciFi Japan, of course.

Rebirth of Mothra 3Daikaiju Discussion:
Next month, Media Blasters is supposed to be releasing the most recent Gamera film on BluRay. It’s supposed to be released on the 25th. Hypothetically, I should be able to order it and have the crew watch it before the end of the month. Media Blasters doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to releasing their monster movies on time. Because of this, I have decided to switch September and October’s movie. We will be watching the 1999 Rebirth Of Mothra 3. This is the one with Grand King Ghidorah and the time traveling protagonist…it’s going to be an interesting entry, to say the least!
